Over the coming autumn and winter months, special EVN survey lorries will be out and about in Guntramsdorf.
These ‘Vibro-Trucks’ are part of preliminary investigations for a pioneering geothermal project in the Thermenregion.
The aim of the project is to utilise natural hot water at a depth of around 3,000 metres as a regional, renewable heat source. To tap into this thermal resource, EVN aims to construct two geothermal plants in the Thermenregion by 2035. In the long term, this will enable thousands of households to be supplied with sustainable energy via our existing natural heat networks, further reducing our dependence on
fossil fuels.
Precise investigations of the subsoil are necessary for the planning phase. To this end, a technique known as ‘vibration seismics’ is being used – a method that has been tried and tested for decades. The survey vehicles generate controlled, technically monitored vibrations, and geoscientists use the data from these to create a precise picture of the subsoil.
The work takes place during the day, lasts only a few minutes at each measurement point and causes only minimal disruption to traffic.
These surveys represent an important step towards ensuring a sustainable, secure and independent heat supply for our region for future generations.
Measurement points in Guntramsdorf between 16 November 2026 and 28 February 2027:
- Railway tracks (municipal boundary)
- Bertha von Suttner-Gasse
- Frankstahlstraße
- Franz Novy Lane
- Industriestraße
- Neudorferstraße
