From January 2027, the market town will be optimising its glass recycling points: fewer scattered locations, larger soundproofed containers and a more
efficient system that benefits the environment and improves cleanliness.

Here’s an overview of what’s changing:

  • Instead of many small glass containers (240 l / 660 l), there will in future be fewer but significantly larger containers (1,500 l / 3,000 l) in a ‘lift system’ (the containers are lifted when emptied, rather than tipped).
  • New locations

For the environment:

  • Fewer lorry journeys within the local area – fewer collections
  • Consequently, fewer emissions (CO₂, particulate matter) and less noise
  • Smaller waste chutes – fewer items thrown in incorrectly (e.g. lids, plastic), better-quality, cleaner waste glass

For local residents:

  • Significantly quieter when disposing of waste thanks to sound-insulated containers
  • Greater safety: sturdier containers that are less susceptible to being blown over by the wind
  • A uniform, well-maintained appearance of the collection points
  • No obstructed pavements

For the local authority:

  • Safety benefit: reduced risk when emptying
  • Nationwide standard: 95 per cent of local authorities already use it
  • Specifically for Guntramsdorf: currently 420 small containers – in future 46 large ones
